November 2 ALoHP Meeting

Thank you to all the newcomers to ALoHP for joining us at our last meeting. We're very excited to see such growing interest in the group, and we hope you all continue to grow with us.

Key actions from yesterday's meeting were the formation of an Organizational Committee and the planning of the Ice Breaker event.

ALoHP is setting up a core group of officers to serve as an anchor Organizational Committee to the group. These volunteers will meet more regularly and be instrumental in leading, running and organizing the main ALoHP events. At the moment, in keeping with our non-formal structure, we will not be assigning specific roles within the committee such as President, Vice President, etc. within the Committee. We are currently seeking 2-3 volunteers to join Draegon and Sky to serve in this capacity. Please email Sky at sky[at]alohp[dot]com if you are interested.

The first formal ALoHP event is planned as an exhibit / ice breaker social event to be held in late January or February at the High Point Museum, which has a wonderful room with a small stage and is able to accommodate a variety of art forms. This event will serve to allow us to share our work, bring in other interested people and officially kick off ALoHP as a structured group. An announcement will go up on the website and and an email will be sent probably later in the week, as soon as the date is confirmed.

Once the date is set for the first ice breaker event, ALoHP will set our next meeting date to confirm those interested and sketch out an event schedule, as well as firm up and announce the members of the Committee.

Second ALoHP Meeting Brought New Faces and More Defined Goals

The second ALoHP meeting held at DeBeen Espresso on Sunday, October 4, 2009 brought several new members – with interests spanning painting, music, dance and theater. Discussion touched the more immediate plans of perhaps a small "ice breaker" event at The Grateful Bread Baking Co. in November. Also, dialogue continued – with a firmer assignment of roles – for a resurrection of past art show, "Art in the Park" with a goal of organizing the event for Spring, 2010.

Less formal discussion touched upon organizing open mic nights for music or poetry, children art workshops and classes, a cooperative studio/space for local artists, teaching art classes and other possible venues for the art in High Point.

It was also announced the website will be launched more fully this week – opening a forum allowing members the chance to open dialogue about art, coordinate events, or to post "want ads" with an eye towards one being able to team up with others for any given project you may be working on.

The next meeting is planned for Sunday, November 1, at 2PM at DeBeen Espresso.
